Nikola Tesla's Inventions
Nikola Tesla invented many, many things. He patented over three hundred inventions, and invented even more! Here's a closer look at just a few of his many inventions.
The Tesla Coil
The Tesla Coil is probobly the most well known invention that he patented. It is basically a high-frequency air-core transformer. It "collects" electricity, and discharges it in the form of high-voltage arcs. (Left) When Tesla used it, he collected and discharged voltages of up to 100,000,000 volts! Today, people usually go up to about volts.
The Induction Motor
After Tesla had discovered the rotating magnetic field, he began work on his induction motor. It worked with rotating elements theat energized each other through direct current.(Right) His Induction Motor blueprint
Fluorescent Lighting
Tesla experimented with what he called "phosphescent lamps". The idea first came from a French physicist. The idea was coating the inner surface of a high voltage gas tube with fluorescent. Tesla began to work with high frequency lighting ballast. Not until the 1980's did they have more efficient ballasts, some of which had great similarity to the ones he had created about 100 years before.
The Mystery Invention
........And last but not least, the mystery machine! Before his death, Tesla claimed to have built a mysterious machine that is rumored to use no fuel. He also claimed that it harnessed the 'cosmic waves' or high-energy particles that flow into our solar system from far away. However, he never drew up blueprints for it and no prototypes were ever found.
